Tashkent, Uzbekistan – An important meeting was held between the Cyber Law Department of Tashkent State University of Law (TSUL) and the British Embassy. The meeting encompassed a range of initiatives aimed at strengthening cooperation in the field of legal regulation of new technologies.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the development of academic exchange and educational programs, including organizing visits of British professors, experts, and lecturers to conduct master classes and lectures for TSUL students and faculty to exchange experiences. They also explored assisting in the creation of joint Master’s/PhD programs on legal aspects of cyber law, fintech, and artificial intelligence between TSUL and leading British universities, as well as supporting exchange programs for students and faculty between TSUL and UK universities.

The British Embassy also committed to helping establish connections between the department and British research centers, technology startups, and companies in the field of cyber law. They expressed readiness to collaborate in conducting joint scientific research and expert assessments on pressing issues of legal regulation of new technologies, as well as assisting in organizing joint scientific-practical conferences, seminars, and hackathons at the intersection of law and technology.

Furthermore, the British Embassy will facilitate visits of British experts, lawyers, and representatives of regulatory bodies to exchange experiences in legal support for cybersecurity, fintech, and other high-tech areas. They will assist in attracting British specialists to conduct training, workshops, and consultations for TSUL teachers and students, and support the department in establishing contacts with relevant structures in the UK.

As part of the informational and analytical support, the British Embassy will provide up-to-date information on legal changes, trends, and best practices in regulating new technologies in the UK and the European Union. They will cooperate in comparative analysis of legislation and approaches to regulating cybersecurity, fintech, and others between Uzbekistan and the UK, and assist in preparing analytical materials and research on issues of mutual interest.

TSUL Rector Rahim Hakimov emphasized the significance of this collaboration: “Cooperation with the British Embassy will allow us to integrate the UK’s best practices and expertise in the field of legal regulation of new technologies into TSUL’s educational programs, research, and expert advisory activities. This will play a crucial role in preparing our students and faculty to be globally competitive.”

British Ambassador Timothy Torlot highly appreciated the prospects of cooperation: “We are pleased to further strengthen our partnership with TSUL. Assisting in enhancing Uzbekistan’s capacity in legal regulation of new technologies is one of our top priorities. Together with TSUL, we strive to develop modern approaches to legally support innovation and digital transformation.”

At the end of the meeting, the participants identified specific areas of cooperation in the field of cyber law and established regular communication to coordinate future joint projects.
